Book Review: That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Human by Kimberly Lemming

That Time I Got Drunk and Saved a Human is the third book in the Mead Mishaps series by Kimberly Lemming. If you’re a fan of the series, I think you’ll enjoy this latest edition. This one might be my favorite of the series, I liked it even better than the first one. The series as a whole is so fun, and this one is no exception. We are following Dante, a dragon and side character in the previous books, on his quest to find his mate. Along the way, we get to see some of the characters from the previous books, which was nice. I like how connected everything is in the series. There’s a lot of the funniness of the previous books as well as the spice. However, there’s also a lot of miscommunication between our two main characters which got to be annoying at some parts. This audio book was narrated by Hazel Addison. This is the same narrator who did the first book which I also listened to as an audiobook. I really like this narrator and think she does a good job with doing the different chapt...

Book Review: Gwen and Art Are Not In Love by Lex Croucher

I really enjoyed this book! Both from noble families, Gwen and Art have been engaged to be married since they were children. They grow up hating each other, but when they each discover that the other is queer they become allies instead of enemies. Gwen is falling in love with a knight, Lady Bridget and Arthur begins to fall for Gwen’s brother, Gabriel, who is the future king of England. While things do get a little dark at points during this book, overall, it’s a pretty light read. Both Gwen and Arthur can be annoying at times, but they are teenagers, so that’s to be expected! They both experience a lot of growth throughout the book, so I was happy to see that. There’s quite a bit of Arthurian legend here, which I was fan of. I had initially assumed when reading the book that these characters were intended to be the legendary characters. It was a nice surprise to learn that they weren’t. I also liked that they weren’t relegated to the typical roles of Arthurian retellings. I haven’t la...

Book Review: Heir to Thorn and Flame by Ben Alderson

In Heir to Thorn and Flame, we follow Max who has worked as a servant in the palace for years in a kingdom where magic has been lost. Max discovers that he has magic after being attacked by the prince and killing him. Forced to take on the prince’s name and identity by the king, Max is then forced into an arranged marriage with Prince Camron. The king holds Max his parents hostage, and also holds his wand hostage which prevents him from using his magic. Overall, this book was not for me. It seemed like it was going to be a fantasy romance type of book from the description and the cover. However, there was barely any romance, and the fantasy part of it was convoluted and not that interesting. Our main character Max also seems to make no choices, and everything is just kind of forced upon him, which doesn’t make for a very good read. I probably should’ve stopped reading this book after Max was forced into becoming the prince. As part of that forced transformation, his skin was chemicall...

Book Review: System Collapse by Martha Wells

This is another fantastic installment in the Murderbot Diaries series! I’m a big fan of the other books in the series, so I was very excited to receive an arc of this. System Collapse takes place immediately following the events of Network Effect. While working on a mission with humans from both ART’s crew and Preservation, Murderbot is suffering from the effects of what happened to it in the last book and it’s clear those events have taken a toll on it. Murderbot is just as funny, irreverent and pessimistic as it was in previous books but we get to see it work through some issues that we haven’t seen in previous books. I love reading everything from it’s point of view. We continue to see more of it’s character development in this book, as it as deals with more of those pesky feelings. My favorite part of this series is the interactions between Murderbot and ART and we get quite a few in this book. They are so snarky and playfully mean to each other while still obviously caring for eac...
